2008 AIRK Nationals

Got home late last night. My mom went with me, which was alot of fun. She has never been to a rottweiler show and she had a great time. I got to show alot of nice dogs this weekend. Every single one of them placed in their class. Well…except Chomp. He was VP rated (the best they can give a puppy) but he didnt place.

(Just to give you an idea…there were 91 dogs on Saturday alone…and this was a 2 day show) It was a great weekend though.

She spent 9 days sleeping at the vet clinic with her and they didnt think she was going to live. This was really special to her, and when we walked out of the ring…and I handed her dog back to her she was bawling her eyes out. She was SO happy.

(My regret from this photo…I wish I had gotten the collar up a little higher on her neck…dangit. Otherwise, it turned out pretty good. She was thrilled with it)

Bronco vom Herran Haus (V1 in working males!) I like this dog alot…He belongs to Chomps breeder. He was shown in Germany before coming here, and whoever trained him to show did a great job. He LOVES showing.

There is another show in 2 weeks that they have extended the closing for… I just dont think Chomp is mature enough though. He is very gangly right now. So I think his next show will be in March.

It was a great National though, and we had alot of fun. Now…back to getting Rom and Z ready to trial!

Brownie - Driviest Puppy and 3rd place in the puppy Sprint Race!

On Saturday Nov 1st, Brownie was entered in “Driviest Puppy” 6-12 months. Brownie was 7 months old. (Same place Rommel earned his OBT) They have a helper who has a tug, pillow, sleeve, whip, stick and clatter stick…and basically just have a giant puppy circle. They continue to add pressure until they decide on the winner. Brownie has never seen a sleeve, stick, whip…etc. He is on the tug. I had no idea what he would do…but he bit the sleeve like he had been doing it his whole life… and I dont even think he noticed the clatter stick or the whip. And he had also obviously never seen that helper before.

I was somewhat surprised at the level of pressure they put on the puppies…but I would do it again…Brownie did awesome and had a freaking blast. Oh, and he got 1st place out of about 10 puppies in his class. He handles pressure extremley well, and honestly…I think this dog enjoys the fight. The guy next to me actually was commenting about Brownie the whole time…saying that he liked him and “Good luck with him as an adult” LOL. He is going to be alot of dog…but I am game, and I am very excited to see what the future holds for him. :) I think Brownie is exactly what I was looking for. He has shown from a very young age that he is special…he was my pick from the time he was born.

Right after the “driviest puppy” they did the puppy sprint race…Brownie was totally worn out, but still got 3rd place. They do it one by one, and you can have them chase you, or have someone run with a toy or whatever… It is 25 yards. I had our trainer (who was there also) run down the field with Brownies tug and I stood with Brownie behind the starting line holding his collar, I knew Brownie would B-line for his tug…haha, he did, and it got him 3rd place. He was one pooped out puppy that night. But he won 2 trophies that day!

After meeting Brownie and seeing him work…everyone laughs when I tell them his name…”Brownie” But trust me, Brownie is the perfect name for my little hellion.

I only got one photo of him during the Driviest Puppy Competition….and the only reason I even got ONE is because someone happend to snap one with their camera. Thanks to Lydia of Bionic American Bulldogs (www.bionicamericanbulldogs.net) for the photo of my boy.

I would highly recommend NWDA events. The people, the judges and the competitors were awesome. We had a great time and will definitely enter more NWDA trials in the future.

Rommel earns his NWDA OBT

Lots going on…but not much blogging :) So let me play catch-up…bear with me.

Well first of all Sunday November 2 was Rommel’s birthday…so HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROMMEL!

On Friday, October 31 we attended an all breed obedience trial. It was a very last minute decision..like, they allowed us to enter the night before the trial It was sponsored by a new group called NWDA (National Working Dog Association) They trialed 23 dogs on Friday! They offer SD and PD titles, which are very comparable to Schutzhund and Ring Sport. They also offer an obedience title called the OBT. It is kind of like a Schutzhund BH except you have to do a retrieve on the flat and the dog has to do a 30 inch jump, but they dont have to retreive over the jump…only jump it. I thought it would be good no pressure practice for Rommel and I. He did awesome. I was so very proud of him. He got the short obedience leash caught up on his foot on the recall (stupid me…if only the leash were about 3 inches shorter or longer it would have never happened) but…he didnt care…he got back to me as quickly as he could on three legs. The judge actually commented on how determined he was and said he took no points, because Rommel showed him exactly what he wanted to see. It spooked him a little bit, but he continued on and still pulled off 91 points. He got a nice certificate.

He was also High Obedience for the OBT’s and the first doberman to title in NWDA. :) Rommel works really hard for me, that means more to me than any title. He always gives me his best.
